Still don't know what type of floor finishing is best for you? That's okay, we'll help you decide. Remember, it is important that you consider your lifestyle and maintenance preferences before you choose. The following are some options that are available for finishing wood:

Sealer (penetrating)

This is applied with a brush or paint pad and the awesome thing about this finish, is that it colours and seals in one step. Can you say time saver! It should be allowed to soak into the wood for a few minutes before wiping off the excess.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane is both easy to apply and durable. Oil based polyurethane is more durable than water based polyurethane however, it takes longer to dry. You can use one thick coat or two to three thin ones.

Varnish

Varnish comes in either a high gloss finish, medium gloss finish or a flat finish. Varnish is used in many applications, so ensure that you choose one that is specially formulated for floors. Now bear in mind that varnish creates a hard and durable finish but it does experience slight yellowing over time.

Pickling

You should mix your paint with thinner, then apply a coat to your floors. After about 15 minutes, wipe off the excess along the grain. Do note that pickling accents the wood grain.
