Homemade Mosquito Trap

Well, one thing we have no shortage of here in the Caribbean are mosquitoes. Which is a good thing for the ecosystem or for the amphibians that eat them but definitely is not a good thing for us, when you consider dengue and chikungunya. I mean you're trying to sleep and you hear the buzzing sound that can drive any sane person crazy! Or you're sitting watching TV and no matter how much you shake your feet they just won't let go! Toxic bug sprays are not always safe, especially around pets and children, so, you can make a mosquito trap using any empty plastic bottle that you may have laying around your home. This can solve or at least ease up your mosquito problems.

What You Need:

  • A 2-liter Plastic Bottle
  • Black Paint
  • 1 Gram Of Yeast
  • 1 Cup Of Water
  • 1/4 Cup Of Brown Sugar
  • Sharp Knife

What You Need To Do:

  • Wash out your plastic bottle.
  • Using your knife cut your plastic bottle in half.
  • Mix the brown sugar with the hot water and place it aside to cool.
  • When the mixture has cooled, pour it into the bottom half of your cut bottle.
  • Take the funnel part of the bottle and place it upside down into the other half of the bottle.
  • Use your black paint to paint the outside of the bottom part of your bottle.
Funnel

You never need a funnel, until you need a funnel. This is by far the easiest and most useful tool that you can get out of your empty plastic bottles.

What You Need:

  • 1 2-liter Plastic Bottle
  • Sharp Knife

What You Need To Do:

  • Simply take your knife and cut off the funnel part of your bottle.
  • Use the funnel part of your bottle as a funnel.
Sealant For Your Open Plastic Goods

You purchase many of your goods in plastic packs and you may spill them from time to time. So, you can use a rubber band or a clip to seal your plastic packs until you need them again but here's a much neater way and also a good recycling idea, use the funnel part of your empty plastic bottles as a sealant for your open plastic goods.

What You Need:

  • 1 2-liter Plastic Bottle
  • Sharp Knife

What You Need To Do:

  • Take your knife and cut your empty plastic bottle in half.
  • Take the funnel part of your bottle and place it snug over your opened pack.
  • Replace the cork of your bottle to help seal in the contents of your pack.
